Scholarships due in October:

AMERICAN FIRE SPRINKLER ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP    
Criteria:    For high school seniors who plan to further their education at a college/university or certified trade school. Students read an essay and answer questions.  For each correct answer they receive one entry in the drawing, up to 10 entries.
Amount:    10 $2,000 scholarships.
Deadline:    Begins August 28 through May 3

AES ENGINEERS SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:    Students will submit an essay on one of the two topics that appear on the scholarship page of their web site. You are not required to be taking engineering courses to be eligible.
Amount:    $500.

SIEMENS COMPETITION
Criteria:      Science research competition completed individually or as a group.  Students submit a research report/ paper to be judged.
Amount:    Varies between $10,000 - $100,000.

OUTSTANDING STUDENTS OF AMERICA
Criteria:      For seniors with community service and involved in school activities.  Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA.
Amount:     Over twenty $1,000 awards.

MILITARY ACADEMY NOMINATIONS
Criteria:     Students wanting to attend a military academy after graduation need to be nominated by a Congressional representative.  Nominations are based on SAT/or ACT scores, class rank, grade point average, school transcripts, extracurricular activities and service.

AT-LARGE  JUNIOR MISS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
 Criteria:      Candidates are judged in the following area: Scholastic Achievement, Judges Interview, Creative & Performing Arts Presentation, Physical Fitness, Self-Expression.
 Amount:    Varies.

HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:    The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, and a desire to contribute to society.  Must have an adjusted gross income of $50,00 or less per family.  Minimum GPA 2.0. Must include one letter of support from an adult who understands your adversity and can describe the unique circumstances in your life.
Amount:     104 $20,000 scholarships awarded in the state of Utah.

COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM
 Criteria:    Based upon leadership, character and achievement both inside and outside the classroom, andcommunity service.  Must be a high school senior and a U.S. Citizen. Must have a 3.0 GPA.
 Amount :    Fifty  $20,000 scholarships.
            Two hundred $10,000 scholarships.
 Deadline:  October 31

PRINCIPAL'S LEADERSHIP AWARD    
 Criteria:     Activities and leadership qualities, top 20% of graduating class.  One student from LHS can be nominated to compete for this scholarship, please let your counselor know if you wish to be considered.  Award is funded by Herff Jones, Inc. and is administered by NASSP.  Essay required.
 Amount:    One hundred fifty scholarships of $1,000.
 Deadline:  October 31 to the school.

PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS
 Criteria:    Applicant must have engaged in volunteer activity that occurred at least in part in the twelve months preceding the application. Logan High may nominate one student.
 Amount:    State honorees receive $1,000.  National Honorees receive $5,000.
 Deadline:  October 31

WELLS FARGO COLLEGESTEPS
 Criteria:    Sign up for the College Steps program which entitles the student to information about college preparation, college entrance exams, how to choose a school, and financing a college education.  After signing up students are entered into a drawing each month.
  Amount:     Twenty  $1,000 scholarships.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:     Two National Honor Society members (seniors) will be selected from LHS to compete on the state level.  Each state will have at least two winners.
Amount:    250 $1,000 scholarships.
Deadline:   Obtain nomination form early November

UTAH STATE OFFICE OF EDUCATION CENTENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR EARLY GRADUATION CERTIFICATE
Criteria:     A partial scholarship program for high school students who graduate early from high school  and  who enroll within one calendar year in an eligible Utah post-secondary institution.  Must enroll full-time
Amount:   Between $333 – $1,000.

ACLU STUDENT ACTIVIST SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:       Must be a Utah Senior with a GPA of 3.0 or above.  Demonstrate a strong commitment to
                      civil liberties. Demonstrated financial need increases chances of qualifying.
Amount:      Three $1,000 scholarships in Utah.  Winner has chance at $7,000 national scholarship award.

RON BROWN SCHOLAR PROGRAM
Criteria:    This scholarship program is for African American students who excel academically, exemplify exceptional leadership potential, make an impact on their communities, and demonstrate financial need.  For high school seniors who plan on attending a 4 year college or university.
 Amount:   Ten $10,000 scholarships renewable for four years.

INTEL SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH
Criteria:    Extremely competitive scholarships for students with excellent background in scientific  research/projects.  Primary emphasis is placed on a written report of an independent Science/Mathematics/Engineering research report.
Amount:    First place through tenth place  $10,000 to $20,000, thirty finalists $5,000 each.
                     Three hundred semi-finalists get $1,000 plus their school gets $1,000.  Finalist compete for the top prize, a $100,000 scholarship.

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS “VOICE OF DEMOCRACY” SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:     Children or grandchildren of U.S. military veterans - including those currently serving on active duty or in the National Guard or Reserves can enter the Patriotic Audio Essay Competition. The theme is “Does America Still Have Heroes”.  Students submit entries to their local VFW post.
Amount:    $30,000.

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION “MOST VALUABLE STUDENT” SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Criteria:    The award of this scholarship is based upon financial need, leadership and GPA.  Leadership scores will be based on a student’s achievement, offices held, activities, work experiences, community service and the application.  Must be a U.S. citizen.
Amount:      Ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 per year.

 Criteria:    SAE offers a number of scholarships for senior students who have intentions of majoring in Engineering at an accredited university or a related science.  Must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA for 10th and 11th grades.  
 Amount:    Varies from $1,000 to $10,000.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS/AMERICAN ARCHITECTURAL FOUNDATION        
MINORITY/DISADVANTAGED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
 Criteria:          High school senior entering a program leading to a bachelor's or master's degree in architecture.  Candidate must be nominated by an individual familiar with the student's  interest and potential to be an architect.
 Amount:        Twenty scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500  (depending upon need).

VIOLET RICHARDSON AWARD - LOGAN SOROPTIMIST
 Criteria:         For female high school seniors demonstrating good citizenship qualities.  Youth Citizenship Awards are given in recognition of the outstanding contributions made by young people to  home, school, community, country and the world.
 Amount:         $250 state level; $1,250 regional; $2,500 national.

 COMCAST LEADERS AND ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP
 Criteria:          The Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program rewards students who have best demonstrated a commitment to community service, positive attitude, leadership skills and  academic achievement.  Student must be nominated.  Applications must be submitted  through the principals office. Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required. Logan High may nominate  one student.
 Amount:           $1,000.
 Deadline:         Must be turned in to scholarship committee by December 1

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
 Criteria:        Students must demonstrate a drive to succeed through their accomplishments in high school.  They are looking for  well rounded individuals who has demonstrated achievement at a job, sport or extracurricular activities.             
Amount:        Fifty-two $10,000.  Ten nominations from the 52 will be selected to receive an additional  $15,000 scholarships.

LYNN JENSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:      Must be a high school senior from the state of Utah who plans on becoming a school counselor or public education teacher for grades K-12. Must write an essay about a school counselor  who has had a positive influence on you and your school success.
 Amount:      $500.
 Deadline:     December 21

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS (William C. Doherty Scholarship)              
Criteria:      Must be a son/daughter of current or deceased member of National Association of Letter Carriers.

Amount:      Five scholarships of up to $4,000.

 OGDEN AREA HISPANIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE/ZIONS FOUNDERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
 Criteria:    Awarded to students of Hispanic/Latino descent who reside in Weber, Davis, Cache or Box Elder Counties.  Must have a GPA of 2.5 or above, have demonstrated leadership in school, community and/or other service organizations that promote, enhance, or strengthen diversity.  Must document financial need. 
 Amount:    Varies.  All scholarship awards will be presented to institutions of higher learning located in Davis, Weber, Cache and Box Elder counties.
 Deadline:   January 9

GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS
Criteria:    For low income, minority students.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and enroll in a full-time accredited college during the 2010 school year.  Must demonstrate financial need by being Pell Grant eligible, show leadership in community service, extracurricular activities or other activities that reflect leadership abilities.  Must be nominated by LHS.
Amount:     Winners will receive funds for the cost of tuition, fees, books, and living expense in an amount to be calculated by the Gates Millennium Scholars based on financial need.

SOCIETY OF AMERICAN MILITARY ENGINEERS
Criteria:    The Great Basin Post of the Society of American Military Engineers invites high school seniors who are going to pursue an Engineering degree to apply.
Amount:    $1,800.

SAM WALTON COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Criteria:    Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic record, ACT/SAT scores and school involvement. May apply on-line beginning November 1.
Amount:    Each Wal-mart store (#1888) and Sam’s Club (#4786) is eligible to award $3,000 to qualifying local high school seniors.

WASHINGTON CROSSING FOUNDATION

NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:     Anyone with multiple sclerosis, or anyone who is the child of someone with multiple  sclerosis, who will be attending an accredited post secondary school for the first time.

PHI DELTA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PROSPECTIVE EDUCATORS
Criteria:    High school senior with 3.00 GPA.  Includes five criteria that are weighted equally:  cademics, essay, letters of recommendation, school activities, and  community  activities.  Must major in education and write an essay on topic chosen by  scholarship committee.
Amount:  Thirty $1,000, one $2,000 , one $4,000 one $5,000.

ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER ORGANIZATION SCHOLARSHIP   
Criteria:         Open to Asian and/or  Pacific Islander students.  Must have a minimum GPA of 2.7, and  Must apply for FAFSA by March 1.  Submit one letter of recommendation.
Amount:         Over 200 scholarships between $2,500-$5,000.

TOSHIBA/NSTA EXPLORAVISION AWARDS
Criteria:      Teams of 2 to 4 10th to 12th grade science students work together to explore the background of a present day invention, how it works and its impact.  Teams are also   asked to predict what the invention they have chosen will be like 20 years from now.
 Amount:       U.S. savings bonds–First Place $10,000; Second Place $5,000.

Criteria:      Must be an Eagle Scout who is a graduating high school senior.  Selection is based on  financial need, scholastic accomplishment, involvement in Scouting, school and community activities.

SOCIETY OF EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICISTS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Criteria:      Students with interest in and aptitude for Physics,  Mathematics, and Geology, who intend to pursue a career in exploration Geophysics or a closely related field such as physics, geology or earth or environmental science.  A student in need of financial assistance will be  considered; however, the competence of the student is given first consideration.
Amount:       $500-$14,000 per year.  Average award being $2,600 per academic year.

Criteria:      Any African-American, Hispanic, or Native American U.S. citizen who is majoring or plans to major in Physics is qualified to apply. 
Amount:      $2,000 for new scholarship recipients, and $3000 for renewal scholarship recipients.  Funds to be used for educational expenses including educational materials, tuition, room, and board. $500 awarded to each College Physics department that hosts one or more APS minority  undergraduate.

NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION--AMERICAN HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP   
Criteria:       Available to students majoring in American History, Political Science, or Economics. 
                     Affiliation with the DAR is not a requirement.  This scholarship is awarded without regard to race, religion, sex or national origin.      
Amount:      $8,000; $2,000 per year for four years.  In addition, the Utah State Society DAR will award one (sometimes two) scholarships of at least $150 each to the state winner (who will then be entered in the national competition). Please contact Crystal Burningham by January 10th for referral

Criteria:          Awarded to graduating high school seniors whose MOTHERS are current members of NSDAR; no other relationship qualifies.  All applicants must obtain a letter of  sponsorship from a local DAR chapter.

WOMEN’S ITALIAN AMERICAN CIVIC LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:        To qualify the applicant must graduate from a Utah high school and be of recent Italian descent.  Selection will also based on ACT scores, high school academic performance and involvement in extra-curricular activities.  An essay is also required.

Criteria:    Applicant must be a college-bound high school senior, who is a son, daughter or stepchild of a Wal-mart company associate.  Grades, financial need, ACT/SAT, and academic record are considered for this award.

Criteria:    This award honors high school seniors who have demonstrated high-tech experience and leadership abilities. Applicants must be high school seniors who have taken, or are currently  taking, the Novell  CNA or SUSE LINUX course and have a GPA of at least 2.0
