Electronics Procedure

This procedure will take effect at the beginning of the 2nd trimester 11/27/07

Why

Increased media stimulation has become a challenge for teachers to maintain attention. The use of personal electronic devices in the school contributes to this challenge and the loss of valuable teaching time. Furthermore, cyber-bullying has become a concern in schools. As a precaution, an electronics procedure during school hours needs to be enforced.

Definition

Any electronic device including, but not limited to music devices, cell phones and or hand held games.

There is a phone available in the main office that students may use, however conversations must be held to no more than 3 minutes and when the main office closes the phone will not be available for general use.

Students will not be called to the office to answer a telephone call. In the event of an emergency, a parent may call the school secretary and request that information be relayed to the student.

The school district is not responsible for theft or damage of any electronic device.

Procedure

Students may use cell phones / electronic devices before and after school, during passing time (passing time is defined as class dismissal bell to tardy bell) and at lunch. Cell phones / electronic devices in the classroom must be out of sight and completely powered off. Cell phone use is prohibited in locker rooms, restrooms and shower facilities. These devices should never be a distraction, disruption or cause a student to be tardy.

Each Offense: Confiscation. The electronic device will be taken to the main office and will be picked up by a parent or legal guardian.

If a student refuses to turn the electronic device over to the school personnel that requested the item, he or she will be suspended for one day or until the Parent/Guardian can meet with School Administration.
