Classroom Policies

Grading and Homework Policies
1. Homework will be collected every day, due at the beginning of each class period.  Each assignment is worth 10 points.  Students can only earn a maximum of 6 points (D-) for late work.  Homework is late if it is not turned in when called for.   Late work will not be accepted after the chapter test for each unit.  Homework is worth 50 % of your grade, tests and quizzes are the other 50%.  If students choose to not turn in homework, they are choosing to fail.

2. All grading is done on a point system.  Grades can be calculated at any time by dividing how many points have been earned by how many are possible.   Your grades are updated on the Internet nearly every day.

3. THE GOOD NEWS:  There is a test at the end of each chapter.  If a student struggled on the test, they have the opportunity to improve the test score by retaking the test.  This must be done within three school days of the test, before or after school.  Student must tell Mrs. Smart that they plan to retake a test.

Participation Points
Students start with 100 participation points.

Points are added for:  catching Mrs. Smart making a mathematical error.  Students with no more than 1 tardy and no unexcused absences will receive 10 additional participation points at mid-trimester, and again at the end of the trimester.

Points are subtracted for disruptive behavior including, but not limited to, use of cell phones, pagers or head phones, bringing food to class, tardies, making messes, obstructing the learning of others.
